Our Courses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Field skills are traditionally built up through time spent in the field and from learning directly from more experienced ecologists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, there are limited options to obtain these skills. Most university courses focus on theory, and comparatively less on practice. While theory is important, potential employers place a high value on people with applied field experience, and who can work safely in outdoor environments with limited supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We deliver short, field-based courses on essential field skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We offer these courses to natural science students and recent graduates, and early-career ecologists. We have developed and a network of five courses which focus on one of three themes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Identification<\/strong>: how to correctly identify and describe what you observe in the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Survey techniques<\/strong>: how to collect data for use in environmental assessment and monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Field safety: <\/strong> how to work safely in outdoor \/or remote environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each of our five courses focuses on the most essential skills for field ecologists. Each course is standalone and developed and taught by experienced professional ecologists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
