The ERA team recently undertook a recce mission to the salt-marshes of East Gippsland, scoping for future projects and looking for endangered flora. The field trip resulted in confirmed range expansions for two endangered FFG-listed species.

Bushy peppercress (Lepidium desvauxii<\/em>) is a perennial herb that generally flowers in spring to autumn. It inhabits marginal areas of salt-marsh habitat within coastal dunes in South Gippsland and South-Western Victoria. Bushy peppercress is listed as endangered in Victoria. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creeping rush (Juncus revolutus)<\/em> is a rhizomatous perennial that is found in saline environments such as the salt-marshes of South-western Victoria. Only a few occurrences are known for this species. This type of flora is useful for controlling erosion in saline habitats. Creeping rush is also listed as endangered in Victoria under the Flora & Fauna Guarantee (FFG) Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swamp sedge (Carex gunniana<\/em>) is another rare species. It occurs on swampy ground adjacent to watercourses and only a few reported findings are recorded in south-eastern Victoria. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
