Habitat Creation

ERA are experts in the design, creation and installation of in-situ wildlife habitat.

We use current best-practice and scientific knowledge to deliver habitat creation projects in partnership with our arboriculture team, and to undertake further research in this emerging field.

Our ecology and arboriculture team work very closely together to ensure that hollows are created in the most appropriate habitat, and in the most appropriate way, to suit our target species.  We are able to adapt our habitat creation techniques for different sites and wildlife species.

To create natural looking hollows that will require minimum maintenance, we used a newly developed tool called the Hollowhog, combined with other more general field-tested methods. Our team are incredibly careful not to install hollows in existing hollow-bearing trees. If we are unable to determine the presence of hollows from the ground, we will use a drone to investigate.

We prefer to create artificial hollows where possible – see here for our handy habitat creation guide. However, we are also able to install nest boxes as part of an existing habitat creation project if required.
